I am the best, or am I?

I am sure most of us have felt that amazing feeling when you know you are the best at a given thing. Just seeing the opportunity gives you a rush of adrenaline, cause you know you will be given a chance to show, once again, that you are the best. But how good a feeling is that? Is it that good that you are so full of yourself? Is this confidence, or is this over-confidence? Why is it bad to be over-confident? Don’t we feel amazing when we are confident? Don’t we carry that air around us, that look which tells the person in front of us this is someone whom you can rely on? If with just looks and persona, we can bring so much energy into our everyday interactions, why not try to be that confident every moment of our life?
We often hear that most battles are won even before they begin. How is that possible? We know its common knowledge that if a dog is chasing you, its best to stand up and face it, rather than turn on your heels and run. Why is that? When you turn around and run, you are losing the first half of the battle with the dog. It now sees you as a weaker opposition and hence it will chase you away. If you on the other hand you turn around to face it, it knows that it is facing a formidable opposition and there is a chance that it might be in just as much danger as much as it poses to be a threat. So it will start to calculate its options. Which means that you have won’t have to be chased around.
Interviews are another place where this confidence comes handy. An interviewer has 45 minutes to gauge you as a prospective employee. If in that 45 minutes, you can’t enamor the interviewer, then there is no good reason for you to be hired. But if you can make the interviewer feel that you carry that mental strength which can enable you to accomplish most tasks, then you are immediately in the top few percentage who are a possible hire.
In our day to day life, we interact with any people. Some people clearly leave a mark on us even in the first meeting. What is it about them that so impresses us? There can be many things, but one of the most attractive characteristics of a human is the ability to win the other over by his or her demeanor. We hear people say that there are some people who when they walk into a room, just change the chemistry of the whole situation. Its that ability, which was seen in Swami Vivekananda, that made him a persona with whom no one messed with. On the other hand, there are people who are meek and shy and the downside to it is that one listens to them. They may have abilities and skills at par or better than the rest, but they are never heard because they find it hard to showcase their talents.
Every person is amazing, and has been given special abilities which outshine others. In a world so wide and full of people, it will be hard to stand out, unless everyone is given equal opportunity, and we know how that goes. Hence we have to do something on our own to rise above the rest and reach the sunlight. This of course implies that you need to hone your talents too, cause confidence will take you past the first filter, but you still need knowledge and wisdom to achieve what you want to.

So go out and carry that confidence as if you own the world. Change your image so that every room you walk into stops short and looks at you. Sit up straight, walk erect, smile and be happy, hold your head up, talk less but talk facts, and never ever fear anyone (unless they carry a weapon and seem like they wouldn’t stop without hurting you physically). You will see how the world changes they way it looks at you.
